Hacking Health - Healthy Avocado Sandwiches

Hacking Health - Healthy Avocado Sandwiches

Am having a wonderful day. Woke up, exercised, and got right into my computer work. Have a bunch of plans working inside my head that I do not want to forget. Listing of my thoughts is complete. Made the most excellent sandwiches for dinner. Yummo.

Prepping The Veggies

Check out that color. Yummy! A buck and 69 for that avocado. Avocados are healthy, packed full of vitamins, and avocados are known for containing good fiber and healthy fats.

Above, the avocado is neatly sliced. The avocado slicer is a kitchen "gadget" made specifically for savory (block) cheese slices. The tool slices the avocado wonderfully... this is obvious, hey?

Ready To Eat

Have my chips ready to go and my drink. Am including this image because one should note the remaining avocado w/seed and container. This is the proper way to store unused avocado. Will include an image or two of the results of this storage technique inside this post.

An image of my sandwiches with chips and a drink

Have everything set out for this image because this shows the ingredients with a written recipe... a visual recipe. One can examine the image and decide for themselves how to proceed with the sandwich preparation.

Ready To Eat

A close-up image of my sandwiches

So I went all out with avocado, tomato sans bacon. Quite refreshing. A good sandwich is an art form.I love avocados. Am going to share how to keep them in the refrigerator. And how I get the slices "just right."... below.

Lon's Avocado Slicer

An image demonstrating the use of a block cheese slicer for fresh avocados

I had a half-an-avocado left over. Want to share how to store left-over avocado so it will not lose taste. First, note the container up above in the second image. This is the container I will use... the seed is still inside the half to keep fresh. Second, below note the two images day old avocado I am posting today

Stored for Two-days

This avocado is left-over from the meal above. Note the same piece of fruit in the images above.

Image of an avocado stored for 2 days

Using my avocado slicer (block cheese slicer) I cleaned up the fruit. The fine results are shown below.

Cleaned up and ready to eat.

I used this halved avocado in the illustrated recipe below this image.

Avocado, Tomato, Egg Sandwich Spread

All leftovers. And will start my exercise regimen as posted in an earlier blog. And then will upload the images of my sandwich spread. The whole idea is staying focused on what I have been blogging. It is taking a lot because I am "really" not motivated but I have done two sets of sit-ups and different leg lifts. Whew. Am having a very bad attitude today. Am just sitting here watching YouTube after having completed plenty of exercise. Waiting on dinner (baked fries) and my attitude is much better. It is wonderful what exercise does for us (me). I feel much more relaxed... calmer. Am so thankful I started doing this.

25 January 2017; Update; 1644 hours

Woke up hours ago. Finally, am getting a little motivation as it gets dark outside. Dang. Puts a damper on gardening, yet I did capture a couple of images. While processing them I ran across the images below describing my "fresh" homemade sandwich spread. This stuff turned out to be quite utilitarian. I used it as a chili con carne topping as well as a sandwich filler. Half a large Hass Avocado that cost me $1.69, half of a 0.25¢ Roma tomato, one boiled egg, bread, and some spices was used to constuct three meals. Filling meals. Wow. And I am thinking quite nutritious meals at that. I have been neglecting my fresh veggie intake. Will monitor veggie intake a bit closer.

Hacking Health - List Of My Exercises

Hacking Health - List Of My Exercises

Am trying to stick with it. Lots of things happening today. Trump is being inaugurated as the 45th President of the United States. (Yet it has to be mentioned that one President was elected twice: Grover Cleveland was our 22nd and 24th President). Am up and at it early, have had some coffee, and will exercise. Have been using HTML5: Edition for Web Authors as a reference to keep my pages semantically correct. Will get back into my review and studies at Alison.com. And these folks are serious. Am learning quite a bit and am hoping with review some of it will be retained. Am seriously having problems with retention. Think I will make a list in order to remember what I need to stay focused, and should actually go back through my posts to refresh my memories. Today's weather will not permit me to garden nor make plans to capture images.Dang! Need to do laundry as well. Will do some exercises, drink a bit more coffee, and watch some YouTube if there is anything good.

I purchased some photo frames a while back, and was actually able to print three images. So will need to get one other item in order to start displaying my art. Yaaay. Am very excited.

0945 Hours

Am trying to get motivated for the day. The weather is crummy but have completed two sets of leg and glute reps. Hopefully, this will help my adductor pain subside. This takes a lot of time also. Yet, hopefully, it will be worth it.

21jan17: Was sitting here post processing images of my most recent meal. Decided to have a look at exercises I could add into my regimen. The variety and alternatives are quite numerous. Am starting to think the best idea is to just move. Actually just doing whatever is needed to "move" and doing the movement in a way that works the muscles. Working my muscles effectively is the idea.

    List of My Exercises

  • 20 sit-ups:
  • I use a pillow to keep my tailbone from digging a hole through my skin. I do the exercises slowly and using "form". Am remembering when I first began this endeavor, exercising, that I could not complete my first sit-up without pulling myself by cheating. Now I do 3 sets of twenty.

  • 20 right leg-lifts:
  • Am crippled and deformed a bit on my right leg, so I concentrate on this appendage. When I began, was able to lift my right leg, so have been trying and strengthening it. I do 3 sets of 20 reps.

  • 10 ab leglifts:
  • 20 right-side leg-lifts
  • 20 adductor squeezes:
  • Over the past year or so I have been experiencing major discomfort in this area. I put a pillow between my legs and squeeze. 3 sets of 20 reps. Hopefully, this will help me decrease the pain. It really is quite extreme.

  • 5 Push-ups:
  • It is embarrassing to be able to do so few, but I am sticking with it. When beginning I could not do a single push-up. Now, I am proud to say (quietly) that I am able to do 5 push-ups on demand! Did 3 sets of 5 push-ups.

Setting Goals

I read that it is smart to set goals. And to stick with the goals to accomplish your agenda. This applies to everything. If I set the goals, it will give me an objective. My goal is to alleviate pain. Have pain medication but it doesn't work for everything. And the pain worries me because the medications are not working. Therefore, I have listed my goals in this post so that I can hopefully keep at them. I took a nap... and slept for a couple of hours and I feel good. The weather put a damper on my photography walk abouts today and have been working on my Trump web page. Need to look at my Alison class though. Which I will accomplish as the night ages.

Goals

  • Improve Photography
  • Sell Photographs
  • Fight Pain
  • Improve Coding Skills
  • Study and Learn

Hacking Health - Putting It All Together

    #

    2139 hours

Started an online course at Alison.com. The "course" is named Diploma in html5, css3, and Javascript. And let me just say, "These folks mean business and they are not screwing around. Am continuing my exercise regimen... did three sets of six push-ups. It is funny because when I started blogging about hacking health, I could barely manage One! And in a few minutes I will start three sets of twenty sit-ups: funny because before, I had difficulties. Below, is an image of this morning's dessert/treat.

    Cookies With Milk

    Image of cookies with dip

There was a jumping spider that visited earlier during the week and I captured images while it was sitting on my heater. The spider may have gotten vacuumed up when I was sweeping the rug. Am not sure, yet I think it tried to hop away while I was in mid-stroke. Ha. Am sorry to have lost the model because the heater images were out of focus.

Now back to this code course and exercise.

    0351 hours

Have been studying for hours. Decided to have a break for some chow. I am very happy to have been applying myself to this free course.Sure is fun and the time is well spent! $$$$ Ha! Thank You so very much. Moving around between CSS and HTML is already getting easier... literally over-night. In order to keep it up there are some rules that I learned back at college. Three credit "hours" a week means at least three hours of instruction time. In order to maintain a level of learning that suits me, three hours of instruction time obligates me to double that time studying what has been taught. Even composing this blogspot counts as far as I am concerned. I will need to utilize what Mr. Tabor has taught me.

Alongside this, I need to keep up my healthy hacking. Which is quick nutritious chow and the exercise. Yaaaay! It appears that applying myself to this blog is paying dividends.

    0500 hours

Just finished eating most of my dinner. Will pick at it, relax, and ponder the rest of my time

    2200 hours

.Went to bed. Dinner (below) made me sleepy. I have really been monitoring what is included inside packaged food. The quick meal I ate included real turkey (as opposed to what? I am not sure) and the same with the 100% "real" potatoes. Makes me wonder why the company is so proud of "real" potatoes. What's in baked packaged potatoes when the "real" logo is not on the package. Reading the ingredients is very important.

    100 % "Real" Potatoes

An image of baked french fries

I wrote a simple blog post about a meal put together about a month ago. There are images of the ingredients included inside the post article that show exactly why it is worth the time to read what is inside the package. Instead of trusting the images on the package.

The dinner that made me sleepy was not much, yet was "real!!"

    "Real" Turkey Sandwiches

Inside that jar is some honey that I thought to thaw. It has been out a while, so am not sure about it. Will do a bit of reading to learn. It is staying solid. Hmmm.

    New Ideas - Daily Thoughts

    New Ideas - Daily Thoughts

    New Ideas - Daily Thoughts

It's about exercise!! I have been concentrating on food as well. This post illustrates the focus.

One thing that has caught my attention is genetic modification of our food at the cellular level. Its nutrition and the time taken to prepare. Today is Sunday. Friday 9 December 2016, I did some sit-ups and other light exercise. This morning I will do the same. Slept through Saturday.Literally.Time to nap, now.

Am ashamed of my weakness and endurance levels. Sheesh. Suffice it to say, I did some sit-ups and leg lifts. And a few odd exercises. Really have learned.

UPDATE: December 12th. Have done some exercise used my dumbells. Am letting my shoulders rest. Just ate so won't sit-up or leg lift for about one hour. Am going to keep this up.

UPDATE:December 13th. Guess this is day three. Did "basic" exercizes again today. Still a long way to go. When I am strengthened enough to share the pitiful quantity or repetitions, I will. Too few at the moment. Think I will just get into the habits, and develop with time.Right now, will sit-up, leg lift, and pick up barbells.

UPDATE:December 14th. Day 4. Am still doing exercises. Yaaay! I am doing 10 sit-ups with 3 repetitions. There is an adductor muscle squeeze. My legs are screwed up so this exercise is neccessary. I put a pillow between my legs and squeeze. Three repetitions of ten. This I do while sitting in my chair,... they can be done laying flat and also laying with knees raised.Nothing fancy as illustrated below. Also, today the yard needing tidying and I used my new pinchers for the first time.

The most important things at the moment are one, not to overdo the exercise and to follow through.

UPDATE: December 15th.Thursday. Am resting today in order for my muscles to recoup from my work the past few days. I need to get out to capture some images, and I have a long term goal. To be able to walk for an extended period of time which will require another commitment. Photography is my favorite pastime alongside computers. Going out and walking is a way to capture images and accomplish some light exercise. Have to remember that I am damaged. Some things will never recoup. Something of importance that I forgot: I went to a meeting with other bloggers way over on the South side of town. A neighbor drove me over there, and it took four hours to return by bus. While I was there two things of major signifigance happened, one, interfaced with the Internet using my cell phone for the first time and left a comment on this very blog. Am having difficulty trusting wireless privacy. Am going to research this as time passes, also. Two, I may have come up with a site name for a blog when I improve my code writing skills... "Nine-fingered Code Monkey." The date is 15 December 2016.
As I sit here posting this entry, am noticing how different my muscles... my body in general... are feeling. The sensation is wonderful. Guess I have been couped up for too long. It is later in the day, now, and can say that I have tired quickly and am clumsy.

UPDATE:DEcember 16th. Yaaaay. This is the sixth day in a row. Was feeling sore and crumby last night. Stayed awake almost twenty hours. Went to bed about 6 A.M. this morning, Friday. Woke once yet slept until 3 P.M. when Fed Ex delivered my photo frames.

Had a cup of coffee and decided upon more sleep. And finally decide to stay awake at 8 P.M. Along with exercise and eating habits, will begin to focus on redeveloping sleeping habits that are conducive to productive blogging It is all about healthy hacking.Have started watching a series of lectures on YouTube about Computer Architecture. Seems quite interesting.

UPDATE:Am still at it. December 17th. Saturday. Feel good after taking a day of rest and repair for this old bod of mine. Am continuing with some light exercise and am thinking about going out for some images. Viewbug has a challenge named "Show your city." Need an entry for this.Have done a round of exercises (a set) and am starting to get a plan organized in the way of approaching this light exercise. Basically, I want to be able to get up and down off the ground with a reasonable amount of comfort instead of grunting and groaning. Panting while trying to get up and down when accomplishing my sit-ups.

UPDATE:December 18th. Sabbath. Almost slipped today. It is 1900 hours (am going to stop using am and pm) and have slept most of the day. My sleep habits are still messed up, but I have an orange flavored cake in the oven!!

Need to get on with my exercise and html5 studies. Get back to ground... kind of lost focus today. Sure am glad to have this post up to remind me of my focus.

Update:December 19th. Exercised and captured some images. Am watching a video about websites. Everything is okay today. Alongside watching the videos, am planning on creating a spreadsheet checklist in order to monitor the progress in my exercise regimen. Yet, am feeling like a nap. Wrist is agony. And watered, moved some of my planters out front around. Called my landload about buying her stove. Am trying to buy this stove from the landlord because it is so neat. There are a lot of broken parts, missing knobs, parts rebuilding, and labor to go into restoration. It's a keeper.

It's really cool... 1956 GE. Have an image somewhere that I will upload upon waking up. Need to make a tobacco run too. It is almost 2300 hours so until tomorrow then.

Hacking Health - 24 Hours Of Food

Hacking Health - 24 Hours Of Food

Healthy Hacking -24 Hours Of Food

    A Quick Healthy Breakfast

Half a cup of old-fashioned rolled oats, one tablespoon of brown sugar, and one tablespoon of strawberry jam. Yummo. Over the years have become accustomed to oat for breakfast. I even enjoy just plain boiled oats, if they are cooked the way they taste best to me. Have tried many other's style, and have learned the hard ways that mine are best to me. Prepared with a 2-to-1 ratio of water-to-oats, at a slow boil. I would guess that each person has to learn to cook the oats to their own preference.

Starting with a healthy start to my day with oats, will go through 24-hours of food in this blog. Eating is so very important when spending so much time on the computer. Am old and single so can choose what I want to do. Got into photography and then moved into other computer things, without the corresponding changes to my health care. This was a mistake. Got soft as butter and my diet was yucky.

A Filling Lunch: Healthy and Quick

Turns out these were not as filling as I thought so added some store bought chicken fingers, below.

Homemade Spicy Dip For Chicken Fingers

    • 2-3 tbsps of mayo
    • 1 tbsp. of yellow mustard
    • 1tbsp. of sweet pickle relish
    • 1 tsp.of Worcestershire sauce
    • 1 tsp. of green habanero sauce

As you can see by my previous posts and this post, I like quick, easy, and healthy foods.

Hacking Health - Quick Hot Sandwiches

hacking Health - Quick Hot Sandwiches

Hacking Health - Quick Hot Sandwiches

    Leftovers put to good use

    Chili, Guacamole, and Cheese

I purchase big bags of bread on sale

    Hot Chicken Spread

These next quick hot sandwiches are egg, meat, and cheese omelette.

    Hot Quick Omelette Sandwiches

The white bowl has three chicken eggs stirred/whisked together with about two tablespoons of milk with garlic powder (not garlic salt). The pan is getting hot and there is my spray oil so the eggs don't stick. Two patties of squashed together meat, diced tomato, and two green/spring onions I cooked. Below the ingredients have been placed on the egg wrapping before "the fold."

    Melt the cheese

    "The Fold"

Cut in half and bread the omelette.

Had some left-over homemade chili with beef one morning when I was in a hurry.

    Chili Con Carne Sandwiches

My idea is to share sandwiches (meals) that are warm to hot and quick. When I am texting blogs, my mind is moving and one thing I don't like is losing my train of thought. So a quick healthy meal is good. This is a blog I will add ideas into as time passes.

Started going through archives to find examples of fine hot sandwiches. Meals that can be set up and eaten on the fly. No special recipes because the images are self-explanatory. Below is an old favorite. A ground turkey burger. Yaaaay.

    A Hot Dog Sandwich

This is one of my favorites. Fried dogs.

I usually end-up using left-overs to make sandwiches. After a quick run up to the market for freah bread.

    Loose Meat Sandwiches

Another favorite! Hot turkey with cheese. About $1.50 and homemade. No preservatives nor other folk's handling charges.

Hacking Health - Quick Sandwiches II

    Hacking Health - Quick Sandwiches

    Hacking Health - Quick Sandwiches

UPDATE:10 January 2017. I have discovered that literally there is not enough time to prepare food. Have started to develop a website about Donald Trump, and have been at the xhtml for 4 hours and have barely begun to scratch the surface. Had to get something in my stomach and was thankful to have a can of some nice beef stew. Sheesh If I had to stop my thought process there would be an extra-ordinary loss of time getting my thoughts back in order.

What happens? I am in the middle of texting this code into blogger and my mind is really focused. Yet I have to eat. The problem is when preparing a "long" meal, I step away and get back onto the computer losing track of time and the cooking food. So, quick, healthy sandwiches is one alternative I have chosen. There are things that are necessary to keep on hand in one's refridgerator so that sandwich making is not a huge project.

      Sandwich Necessities
    • Breads
    • Spreads and condiments
    • Fillers and meats
    • vegetables

    Probably the original quick sandwich

    PB&J

    Egg, Spam, and Cheese

    A healthy change up

    PB&B

Once a week boil up a dozen or so eggs. Fry up some fresh meet.

    Egg, Meat, and Cheese Sandwiches

It is wise to have a few containers of tuna stored in the kitchen. For a quick sandwich

    Tuna Spread

Below? An example of the importance of preparing a decent shopping list.

    Tuna Spread Sandwich Dinner

This is a serious sandwich discussion. Another example

    Tuna Spread Sandwich Meal

    And yet another

Tuna does not deserve all of the glory

    Fruit and Vegetable Sandwich

    Bird instead of fish?

    Chicken of course

Cannot seem to stay away from one of my favorites.Have noticed I am partial to strawberry jam.

    PB&J

Tonight, Wednesday, 21 December 2016, I am frying up some Spam as I develop this page further. Am frying up enough meat for at least three sandwiches, and I have some cheese and veggies in the fridge. Then, when I am hungry, can just slap a couple of sandwiches together with some veggies on the side, and have dinner without interrupting my fun on the computer.

Hacking Health - Quick Sandwiches I

    Quick Sandwiches

    Quick Sandwiches

UPDATE:10 January 2017. I have discovered that literally there is not enough time to prepare food. Have started to develop a website about Donald Trump, and have been at the xhtml for 4 hours and have barely begun to scratch the surface. Had to get something in my stomach and was thankful to have a can of some nice beef stew. Sheesh If I had to stop my thought process there would be an extra-ordinary loss of time getting my thoughts back in order.

While I am blogging in depth and really concentrating on getting a post up, food preparation has become an issue: how to spend time wisely. The longer I spend preparing meals,... my flow and concentration is lost. High nutritional quality, filling good taste, and time away from my desk can be managed with the right food. Below is a ten-minute sandwich. Chicken egg, sausage, and cheese. Basically an egg muffin cooked at home.

The egg was already boiled and was sliced with one of those nifty egg slicers. The egg slicer has been included in my knife drawer for as long back in time as I remember. Can see below it is yellowed from age and useage. I bleached it once in an attempt to remove the yellowing to no avail.

My planning habits have developed over the years. I purchase two dozen eggs, completely cook one dozen with a gentle boil (to insure no cracking), and use the eggs as needed. Quick, easy, and nutritious.

Have decided I will continue to add sandwiches to this post. Have quite a collection of easy to prepare, delicious, sandwiches for the busy blogger and busy person in general. Will try to post images that are kind of self-explanatory.Think I will include omelettes. I have cooked some very nice easy omelettes.

Below is a simple tuna spread that tastes great. Included is of course the tuna! Some mayonnaise and sweet pickle relish with a sliced chicken egg. Spiced with garlic powder (not garlic salt), red pepper, and a bit of balsamic vinegar. The red pepper catches up on the tongue sensory nerves, so pepper to taste.

    Below is after the stir.
