Coronavirus

Coronavirus ID19

As of today, 22 February 2020, there are 75,465 confirmed cases of confirmed COVID-19 in China with 2236 deaths according to the AP. Coronavirus is a family of viruses with cases devoloping into SARS and MERS. Almost all of the viruses are located around Wuhan,Hubei.By the sounds of the head doctor ,there is not enough equipment to perform tests, 60 million people live in Wuhan, and cannot tell how to measure or tabulate COVID-19 cases. "Now that we have labratory capacity, we can adjust the case definition again."The biggest danger that is apparent is that the "fear" of the virus is spreading faster than the virus itself.

Am reading an article about the MERS and SARS virus and how the CDC is labelling CVIp-19 as SARS CoV_o2 in response. It appears that SARS is related to coronavirus. This virus has me worried because it is so close to SARS. My wife feels that it was released from a laboratory. This would be a concerning to me because the laboratories are supposedly allowed to operate to protect us.

The Who recommends that if we wash our hands with soap and water, or use a alcohol based hand sanitizer. If we have sneezes to cover out mouth. If we blow our nose of bring up flim use a clean fresh tissue and discard the tissue after use in a covered waste hamper. If the patient has a "fever, cough, or difficulty breathing" seek medical care immediately. Maintain a social distance if you are coughing or someone else is coughing because of droplets of fluid spread disease as well. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth because our hands can pick up germs.

UPDATE: 1 March 2020-there are 88,339 cases with 3001 deaths reported. Guessing that China is just about shut down because of the virus. A lot of European countries are limiting or cancelling public gatherings.World O Meter has a nice breakdown of statistics and graphs to give someone a better idea of how the worldwide breakdown of cases develop. The (World Health Organisation) Who is patterning their response to a flu-like breakout. When people exhibit a fever, cough, or sore throat the person should self quarentine, that is stay indoors and limit contact with other people. The CDC coronavirus homepage has 'novel' coronavirus, MERS (Middle-Eastern Respiritory Syndrome), SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome), and 'common' coronavirus listed. With 97 countries worldwide it is actually a pandemic!

China, Italy, Iran and South Korea have the most deaths, with at least 97 other countries dealing with an outbreak of some nature. Is it a pandemic or an outbreak? Depends on whom is asked and how many people have contracted the disease. South Korea and Iran have reported more than 1000 cases, as of 4 March 2020. There is under reporting: we could be dealing with multiple cases of undetected cases worldwide and chains of human to human transmission worldwide. So we shall listen to what news has to say for now, and decide for our selves.
